Corn syrup can be used as raw material for obtaining the E420 additive.

In this case, the additive E420 does not apply to carbohydrates.

The sweetness of sorbitol is approximately 60% of the sweetness of sucrose, and the calorie content of sorbitol is 1.5 times less than the caloric content of sugar.

Application:

In food products, the E420 additive can act as a sweetener, humectant, emulsifier, thickener.

Sorbitol is commonly used as a sweetener instead of sugar in sweets, chewing gum, dietary and diabetic foods, and beverages. Products containing sorbitol are not recommended for people with overweight problems, since this sweetener has a calorie content comparable to that of sugar.

Sorbitol is a hygroscopic substance, that is, it is able to actively absorb moisture, including from the air. This allows it to be used in products as a water-retaining agent, which helps them maintain freshness for a long time.

E420 additive mixed with sucrose and sodium polyphosphates can be used in the production of surimi - fish paste from pollock, hake, and other white fish. Surimi is known to be a part of "crab sticks".
